Shopping | Coming Down With Mono

...monokinis.
Seriously I should not be allowed to (try to) make puns. Don't encourage me.

Sometimes bikinis are great. Other times, (say, when barbecues, sand volleyball, water parks, or water sports are involved) it's nice to have a little extra coverage/insurance that your bikini bottoms aren't going to find themselves sinking to the bottom of the lake after a particularly nasty wave. True story. The good news is one pieces can still be fun - check out all that fringe! To be fair, there are a ton of super frigging hot black options floating around out there, but to me black kind of screams "I hate my body! Look! I'm wearing a one piece and it's black!" so I avoid it. Plus, come on. Leopard.

Since I found myself in need of a not-kini this week, I figured I'd share the fruits of my research (all under $100 cause I am the brokest of all the jokes) with y'all. What do you think, would you monokini it or are you a strictly two-piece kind of girl?

  1. I have the most adorable one piece from last year's Modcloth, the vintage inspired one with the green gingham print and I AM NEVER GOING BACK MUAHAHA okay sorry done now. But seriously. It's the cutest thing ever. I'm a big fan of 12 and 13 of the ones you picked.

  2. I never really understood the monokini, but you put together some great choices. I love the purple one and the green fringe one! I might have to look into these again...

    1. Seriously, do it. I had no idea what I was missing. The tan lines are weird though.

  3. These are all really cute. The only reason I haven't bought or even tried on any monokinis is because I remember as a kid/teenager (once I started to get boobs) that the stomach part of the bathing suit wouldn't lie flat because of said boobs. I wonder if the cut of these suits would prevent that because they are designed for women and not kids? Anyway, maybe I'll get over this stupid thought and try one this summer

    1. God it must be rough to have boobs and be shaped like a girl. I can't say I've ever had that problem BUUUUUT mine ties in the same place as a normal bikini, so you can definitely make it fit correctly. Try them try them!

  4. I haven't been able to wear a one-piece for many years because my top half is larger than my bottom half. I am thinking I should maybe graduate to a tankini since I'm not as thin as I once was, but it is hard to find one that isn't too frumpy looking!

    1. I was looking at tankinis too! I ended up giving up because I couldn't find where all the non-frumptastics were hiding!
