OOTD | The Problem With Pinterest

Sweater: F21 | Jeans: Gap | Shoes: Sam Edelman Portney | Scarf: apt. 9, I think | Watch: Fossil

I pinned this outfit awhile back and have been holding off on wearing it because I didn't have leopard print booties. Then Shanna went for it and I realized how ridiculous I'm being every time I "save" an outfit until I have the perfect piece. I love my leopard pumps! I love my red scarf! What the HELL am I waiting for? Oh, and my black jeans had dog hair all over them before I made it from the bedroom to the bathroom. So I wore my new favorite jeans (again). And the world/Pinterest did not explode. And I loved this outfit.

Someone who's awesome at this is J at J's Everyday Fashion. Girl has a knack for looking at a photo and creating an outfit inspired by it rather than a carbon copy of it. (Let's face it, she's pretty great at the carbon copies too!) I feel like Pinterest can really give you a complex if you take it too seriously, so here's to actually wearing some of that inspiration I've spent so much time collecting!

Sidenote: it's amazing what a fake tan can do for seasonal depression! Some of my favorites: St. Tropez foam (for instant color with minor rub-off) and Tan Towels (for more lasting color) or L'oreal Sublime tan towels (for a cheaper option). Sign up for eBates and get 6% cashback from drugstore.com!

  6. You look amazing! I am so bad about pinning things and waiting to wear it for just the right moment or having a piece to the puzzle in mind and not just going in my closet and finding another option! I just picked up a pair of boyfriend skinny jeans from old navy and I finally had to wash them the other day. :) I couldn't stop wearing them!

You are doing better than me, girl...cuz what do I do? I go buy it...the thing or things I'm missing. Not always, but enough of the time for it not to be good for future financial security.

  18. Good for you for using Pinterest as inspiration instead of as an excuse to go buy things. A student I work with is currently writing a paper on the effect of Pinterest on society's materialism and it makes me so sad! Don't let Pinterest make you feel like you need to spend money, people! Let it serve as inspiration to use what you already have!

Okay, now that I am off of my soapbox I want to say that I love the outfit! So cute!

  26. You are absolutely glowing and this outfit is so fab - I'm glad you went for it and went for an inspired look rather than an exact replica, you really made it your own. And I'm so guilty of this exact situation: pinning an outfit and waiting until I buy that last item so I can rock the exact same thing. Hopefully, I can step out of the box a little ;)

    1. Booties are HARD! I mean, I like how edgy they look on *some* people, but they end up making me look frumpy a lot of the time. So basically I was waiting to wear this outfit until I could be frumpier... smooth, Sam. Smooth. ;)
