30 for 30 | 7: If It's Not One Thing, It's Your [Grand]Mother

Sweater: F21 | Jeans: Simply Vera | Boots: ShoeMint | Scarf: Target | Sunglasses: F21

I hinted on Twitter that my grandma and I had a bit of an epic adventure in the ER last night. Being the stereotypical adorable retired person that she is (her swim class group is nicknamed The Pollywogs, you can't make this stuff up) she roadtripped back to school with me to hang out for a few weeks to make sure I'm adequately clothing and feeding myself.

Well, yesterday morning she couldn't press her lips together after putting on her lipstick. She swore she was fine and laughed about it, so we went about our hard manual labor for the day (this woman is notorious for rearranging entire rooms in a matter of minutes). Later that night she realized she couldn't drink through a straw, and after we called her doctor he said we better go into the ER. A cat scan and an MRI say no stroke, thank God, but she has something called Bell's Palsy that creates temporary paralysis on one side of her face. And I'm the a-hole who made a 69-year-old woman work all day with stroke symptoms. So yeah. Feeling awesome!

My apartment is still kind of a wreck while we reorganize it, so real pictures are out of the question, but I couldn't bear to miss Marion's Trend of the Month challenge! Really, this outfit created itself. The challenge for January is stripes, and this is the only striped piece in my 30 for 30, and I was absolutely dying to wear my new ShoeMint boots. Still can't believe I won them - thanks Lynzy! I look a little like a colorblind fourth grader with pimping aspirations dressed me, but such is life.

Speaking of life, things have been quiet around here, and I'm so sorry. Really, really sorry because I've been so terrible at responding to comments and hopping over to your blogs to say hello. I just feel like my brain is at a point where I have nothing funny/valuable/insightful to say, and I don't want to waste your time until I do. Hopefully I snap out of the funk soon and I'll get right back to tormenting you guys :)

Aaaand one more gratuitous bootie shot, because I'm so in love!

  1. Glad your Grandma is okay! Mine does the same exact thing with rearranging rooms...I'll come over to her apartment and the dining and living rooms will be completely swapped.

  2. My mom had Bell's palsy after a car accident. With gum chewing and moth exercises she got better. Will be thinking about you two!

  7. That's crazy! I hope she feels ok though. I had Bell's Palsy the fall of my freshman year of high school. Half my face couldn't move for a little bit...traumatizing as a 14 year old! :)

  8. Hey, I'll take tired, funky, brain-dead Sam over no Sam at all. <3
Cute outfit, as always! And how come you look so cute with a lil' bun on your head, and I just look like a turnip? Some girls have all the luck.

    1. I doubt you'd look like a turnip if you stapled turnips to your outfit and rolled around in turnips. And even then, you'd look like a damn cute turnip.

  10. What is it with Grandmothers that never admit when they don't feel well? And always rearranging things?! Mine is the same way!! I love their dedication, but sometimes they just need to say "hey, i need a break." so glad your grandmother is ok.

    1. She's a madwoman! I threatened her within an inch of her life, so if she gets so much as a hangnail and doesn't tell me, she's in trouble :)
